Beaches
North Tyneside has four Blue Flag golden sand beaches including Whitley Bay beach which is a one-minute walk from the guest house. The award-winning beaches are popular places to bathe, walk and play games.

Recently built to a high standard on the Links and is just a 10 minute walk from the Sunholme Guest House.
St Mary's Lighthouse
St Mary's Lighthouse is on an island which is reached by a tidal causeway. The lighthouse is no longer in use but is operated as a visitor centre. You can climb the 137 steps to the top and enjoy a magnificent view of the coastline. The surrounding nature reserve contains an area of rock pools, clifftop grassland, a beach and wetland habitats.

Waves is on the seafront in Whitley Bay and is a state-of-the-art leisure facility featuring a pool with a wave machine and a pirate ship and is perfect for family fun. There is also a soft play, a spa and a gym.
Playhouse Whitley Bay
The recently refurbished Playhouse Whitley Bay stages live music, drama, comedy, dance and much more with national and international performers as well as being a venue to showcase local talent.

Blue Reef Aquarium
Blue Reef Aquarium in Tynemouth features sea life of all different types, sizes and colours including octopus, sharks and exotic rainforest fish. There are also seals, otters and a colony of miniature monkeys in the Amazing Amazon display.
Tynemouth Priory & Castle
The English Heritage managed Tynemouth Priory & Castle overlooks the mouth of the River Tyne. It features a Benedictine Priory and the castle dates back to the 12th Century. It is the burial place of Saints and Kings of the old Kingdom of Northumbria
Surfing
Tynemouth Longsands beach has developed a reputation as a popular surf destination with locals and visitors alike. There are a number of surf shops in the village that offer equipment hire, lessons and repair services.
North Shields Fish Quay
The historic North Shields Fish Quay dates back to the 13th Century. It has undergone an extensive programme of regeneration and is now alive with restaurants. It is the perfect place to eat traditional fish and chips and watch the ships go up and down the River Tyne.
Segedunum Roman Fort
Segedunum Roman Fort in Wallsend is part of the Frontiers of the Roman Empire World Heritage Site and marks the eastern end of Hadrian's Wall. The museum features an excavated fort site, a gallery with exhibits from the excavation, a reconstructed Roman Bath House and a viewing tower.
Newcastle & Gateshead
Only a 30 minute ride on the Metro system, Newcastle & Gateshead offer world class culture with the Great North Museum, Discovery Museum and the centre of Life to name a few venues. The quayside has been transformed in recent years with the BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art, The Sage Gateshead and the Gateshead Millennium Bridge alongside the historic Tyne Bridge.
